The Nursing and Midwifery Council was last week tasked with deciding whether a video of someone having a sex toy removed from their anus was indecent. The video was shown to colleagues by a nurse employed at the Manchester Royal Infirmary, an act that was said to have served had no clinical purpose and instead to have been done solely “for kicks”.

The registrant denied that the footage he played was inappropriate, but the NMC panel found the charges against him proved.  Having concluded that his actions amounted to misconduct and that his fitness to practice was impaired, the panel struck him off the nursing register.

Salma Lalani appeared for the NMC.
