Pro bono is an integral part of being a member of 1MCB. With significant cuts to public funding in family law following the introduction of the Legal Aid Sentencing and Punishment of Offenders Act 2012, more people are looking for free family law advice. Consequently the need for pro bono work is overwhelming. We have taken an active role in meeting this need.

In 2013, 1MCB established a unique resource: Pop-Up@1MCB is a free legal advice clinic providing family law advice to the most vulnerable both nationally and internationally. We are the first set to welcome individuals directly into Chambers to receive pro bono advice from experienced barristers. Our direct approach is rooted in our commitment to make Chambers accessible to the public by engaging with communities.

Our experienced family team provides pro bono advice at Pop-Up@1MCB to some of the most deprived families across the country. We offer a breadth of experience in all aspects of family law.  Further, as a part of a multi-disciplinary Chambers, individuals can access expert advice on areas of law that commonly impact on family cases, including housing, immigration, welfare rights and criminal law. The family team prides itself on its friendly and personable approach and its ability to provide clients with a professional and sympathetic service.

Pop-Up@1MCB works in conjunction with South Westminster Legal Advice Centre and Children and Families Across Borders. South Westminster Legal Advice Centre is a UK-based charity targeting the most deprived in the country, whilst Children and Families Across Borders is an international charity which identifies and protects children who have been separated from family members as a consequence of trafficking, abduction, migration, divorce, conflict and asylum.

Pop-Up@1MCB will operate once a month from 9th October 2013 and on the first Wednesday of every month thereafter. Appointments at Pop-Up@1MCB can be booked through South Westminster Legal Advice Centre by contacting Mr David Warner at 246 Vauxhall Bridge Road, London, Greater London SW1V 1AU, 020 7931 7744, swlac@live.com.
